Meet my co-worker

When I come into work at the News Bureau, my desk and office lie on the bottom floor of one of the oldest buildings on campus. Old wood-framed floor to ceiling windows cover the entire wall facing the quad; it's usually bright enough that I don't have to turn the lights on. Using the natural light is much more soothing than squinting through the glare on a screen from the fluorescent above.

My work days are also good because my Persian co-worker, Farshod (otherwise known as niceboy! on blogger), is a cool guy. He's got a great life story, but I don't think I'm allowed to give away too many details because he's in the process of writing a book about it all. Though I can tell you that in the office, he makes me coffee and I help him with his English--all in all a good work relationship I would say.

I will have to mention one funny story (sorry Farshod!). One day he was telling me to let him know if he ever made a 'faux pas' (ok, he didn't use those exact words because he's just now working on English and doesn't yet know any French). He explained that one day when he took a girl out to lunch, he proposed to her-on their first date! Least to say, he hasn't heard from her again and wasn't sure what he did at first because he explains that in his country the word for 'propose' is a very good thing to say on a first date. He says this would normally make a Persian girl very happy. Our boss, Mr. Harris, had the laugh of his life explaining the American truth to our friend:)
