When the theme for Blog Action Day 2008 was released, it made me ask two questions:
1. Why does poverty still exist?
2. What can one individual do to help stop it?
Because poverty is such a large global issue, a solution seems untouchable to someone living in Jacksonville, Alabama. I, like the typical college kid, have used the excuse, "I can't go because I'm a broke college student." It wasn't until I began attending Passion Conferences that I realized that excuse doesn't work anymore; not for everything. If you're attitude is that the problem of poverty is too big, then it is. If you think giving the $10 you would have spent seeing the latest box office flick to help end poverty won't help, it won't.
In Matthew, the Bible tells us to strive to be poor in spirit. Being poor in spirit does not mean living in poverty yourself. It's all about your attitude. I'm not just a "poor college student." With my heart and attitude in the right place, I am "blessed" in the eyes of God. I can be thankful for what I have and use it to bring glory to the Lord. With my love of photography, I admire someone I met recently through Kari who has been blessed with the talent of photography and uses it as a source of income and also to help others---check out William Haun's passion.
