Wow-this week just flew by. I'm not really sure how, but it managed to do so. We had good news last weekend; we were to clean our room because we were getting bunk beds. They didn't lie-we did get bunk beds. But we were wrong to think it was to save us space, because on Monday we got a new roommate! For those of you keeping count, that would be four girls living in one tiny European hotel room:)
The good news is that the newly arrived Aisha (German) is very nice and we all seem to get along in this space. We've all come to realize that at some point we'll all have to sleep with the light and/or tv on, we all have to share the petite bathroom, we all have to do our laundry on the weekends, and so on. We know the situation we're in, so no one really complains, we just learn to live like this:) Though, it does remind me of my dorm room at Sparkman with the white cement walls.
I also went to the cinema here. It's very fun, and I got a student discount with my JSU card! I knew keeping things would help me one day. Lori and I went to see Narnia. It was great b/c it's easier to follow a more "kid's film" because you can see the plot line. The animals are so life-like!Plus, it's also helpful that I read the book and saw the film at home with Sintos (ok, so it's kind of cheating, but it's still a learning tool!). The theatre was fun; narrow and long, but a small room none the less. Very mignon (cute). If you haven't seen the film yet, you should. It's very compelling, no matter what language it's in. I still cringed at the part where Aslan the lion is tortured and killed.
Wednesday was Aisha's first day of work, so afterward I took her into the city. We went to a couple shops and a cafe and we spoke French most of the night. Which is good for me. At work we can only speak French. One time we were using the restroom and we were carrying on in English, and the receptionist came and knocked on the door and said, "Vous parlez francais!" So I'm getting better I think. My roommates help me out-plus with two German roommates now, I think I'm getting a couple of their phrases too. When it's simple words like 'please' or 'thank you' sometimes we speak German. It was funny when I took Aisha out, though, b/c she was trying to explain something to me, and it took her all three languages to get it right (French, English and German)! People probably thought we were crazy:) Maybe we are!
Ok-I want to write more, but if I don't go out with my roommates tonight, I'll have no good fellowship and free time. So you have more of a taste of my life, and I'll give out some more bites later!
Much love-
Erin
