Come cave away, come cave away, come cave away with me....
A trip to Raccoon Mountain in Chattanooga, TN--a 4-hour cave tour and overnight stay, yes, in the cave!

what goes in...
must come out!
This is possibly the scariest part. Our feet were "scooching" across the only available ledge while my hand were firmly planted on the wall on the other side of the pit. The best way to do this was to got against your natural tendency, drop the backside to get a good angle and put the pressure on your hands. This keeps the momentum of the feet going back instead of forward, where I would most likely get lodged in this crevice before falling completely into the trench.
After it all, I made it out alive! Can't say the same for my shirt, though. It's so much fun to play in the mud when you set out to, pay to, even:) I even army crawled through a stream! We saw so many interesting formations.
My helmet is off because we're in the crystal palace scouting out a place to set out our sleeping bags.
A little snack and then we turn out the lights-the crystal palace was on the regular footpath tour stop so it was lit up here and there (but when the lights went out for bedtime you could see just as much with your eyes open as closed-a very strange feeling-our guide stayed with us and explained our eyes would never adjust b/c there wasn't an ounce of light coming into the cave). And like the rest of the cave it stayed at a cool 60 degrees, so I recommend this as the perfect activity to do in the middle of a heat wave.
